This is Pg. 99 Document #8. When this album came out I was pretty much over-saturated with screamo/metal/grind type hardcore records but this is one of those few album that has stood the test of time for me. Pg. 99 really made this sound all their own with brilliant transitions but not just the typical tempo stuff. This album has tons of styles and feelings that are the hallmarks of the changes that occur throughout the album. Pg. 99 prove it doesn’t have to be all math rock + grind part + pleading vocals for the win. The songs on this album have soul and when it’s all said and done, this album is a classic.

It would be a terrible disservice to this band for me to try to pigeonhole their sound so I will leave that to you with this LINK. Go listen to the record and and I’m sure you’ll go buy it for sure.

As far as this pressing is concerned….this is what I love to see in a hardcore record. Silk screened – two panel jacket with a thick  black and white booklet inside.  From what I’ve read this pressing consists of 200 on red, 200 on white and 600 on black vinyl. I love this kind of rawness in packaging, it’s both beautiful and simplistic… everything hardcore is supposed to be. Robotic Empire did a fantastic job with this pressing as they do with everything they do .

Here is an extensive look at the package. Maybe a few too many pics but hey, I did it.

These are all shots of the booklet.

While at the Converge show I scored a couple things other than the 7″s. Here are the other records. I’m not going to talk too much about them because they’ve been covered here in the past. As far as pressing is concerned, I’d be interest in knowing about the No Heroes and Darker Handcraft. Both of these bands were brilliant live and were also fantastic people cept for Nate Newton who appeared to be stoned on some kind of aerosol…..okay, not really but he really looked like there was something wrong with him. He was cracking me up all night.

Trap Them – Seance Prime: The Complete Recordings (1st print on white)

Trap Them – Darker Handcraft (Tour edition limited to 250 – 180 gram silver)

Converge – No Heroes (clear red)

Converge – Jane Doe (Black 2nd pressing)

I can’t speak for Juan or Nick but me? I’m a BIG fan of these guys. So, I quickly snapped this up as soon as I saw the word that it was up at the Deathwish e-store.

If you you want to get your hands on this beast hit up the link quick; there’s only a thousand in this pressing (300 clear, 700 white.) but I assume if there’s a big enough demand and this sells out DW might continue their trend of repressing stuff on black (ala what they’ve done with some of the Converge stuff recently) so that nobody is left out (or presumably is forced to pay secondary market prices I suppose.)

Anyway, here’s the details via the Deathwish website;

“Seance Prime: The Complete Recordings” 12″LP combines all of their pre “Seizures In Barren Praise” material (the “Seance Prime” CDEP and material from their split 7″EP with Extreme Noise Terror) into one brutal 12″LP release. All of the material has been remastered by guitarist Brian Izzi and the release also features reworked packaging from designer Ryan Patterson (Coliseum, etc.)

The “Seance Prime” sessions were recorded by longtime Trap Them engineer Kurt Ballou (Converge) at his now infamous Godcity Studios. This release in its original form put Trap Them on the map with listeners and critics worldwide as one of the most interesting heavy bands out there today. Songs like “Day 13: The Protest Hour” and “Day 14: Pulse Mavens” are a tornado of D-Beat hooks, frantic bursts of speed, and earth shaking dirges. Erasing the line between metal and punk with every unpredictable twist and turn. All of it dizzying and awe inducing, already deserving to stand among the elite of the extreme metal and hardcore genre.

Album – Eulcid

Artist – Hope: and Songs to Sing

Purchased From – Robotic Empire

I always liked Eulcid and when I found this on sale at Robotic Empire I had to pick it up…man was that a great decision. Eulcid played rock like Rites of Spring meets Dinosaur Jr. meets something from Lovitt Records. I hate to put it that way cause this band is way hard to describe but that’s the best I can come up with. These guys had a pretty cool history featuring members of tons of bands that you love. That history is chronicled by Second Nature HERE. This is a band that if you don’t have all their shit you might want to get their two records cause they really are fantastic.

Ask anyone who knows me in the record collecting nerd world who my favorite band is and chances are they’ll say Converge, ISIS, Minus the Bear, or 27. When a recent distro update came out from Robotic Empire, they mentioned having stock of a new record: “the new Phantom Glue which features members of the band 27. Check it out!” Needless to say that got my attention right away.

A new band featuring members of 27?!?!

27 being one of my favoritest bands?!?!

Yes please!

I immediately scoured the internet for more info on Phantom Glue and ended up at the band’s Facebook page. Terri Christopher of 27 plays drums for the band. Not only is she a great drummer but also a very sweet individual and person as I got to find out when I met her and the rest of 27 at the Florida shows they played opening for Minus the Bear about two years ago. Or was it three? Getting to meet and hang out with Terri, her sister Maria, and Ayal Naor (the rest of 27) and seeing how awesome they are solidified by fanaticism and respect for the band and their music. And yes…I am gushing big time…I’m such a fanboy!

Bands to check out, info to know, albums to remember to order…if it’s worth talking about we’ll dump it right here.

Band recommendation – WHORES My friend Bob did some studio work with these guys recently and he recommended them to me.  The drummer from Artimus Pyledriver is in this band so that should give you an idea of what they’re doing here. Think of a slightly less heavy, self titled record era Torche mixed with some Artimus Pyledriver and you’re on the right path.

Two Cow Garage announce new album, digital single – I’m big fan of the twang this Columbus, Ohio outfit is putting out. So, news of a new album has me a might bit excited. You can read all about it over at Vinyl Collective. If you’re not familiar with the sounds of TCG you can hit up their Myspace.

Trap Them enter God City – If you’re a fan of heavy/extreme music and you’re not hip to Trap Them, well, fix that problem. They are one of the absolute best in the world at what they do. They’ve entered Kurt Ballous’ mythic God City Studio to start work on their debut release for Prosthetic Records and they’re documenting the process via ‘We Craft Darkness’, a blog they’ve started. So if you want to keep tabs on the progress of the record I highly recommend you bookmark it, add it to your Google Reader, whatever.
